Research reveals that Pte McCaig served in both the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Service No S-21271 and the Gordon Highlanders Service No S-41481 enlisting in Paisley on 9th June 1917 Aged 34 Residing in Johnstone he was married with one daughter , occupation Bread Vansman. K.I.A 9th April 1918 in France. Entitled to Victory & War Medals. Recorded on the WW1 Pensions Register
Grouping consists of Victory Medal [No Ribbon] correctly impressed to S-21271 PTE J.H.McCaig A&SH, Death Plaque with white inner envelope and card outer envelope, Medal entitlement slip dated 1921 from the Records Office Perth, Memorial Scroll with the recipients details [Gordon Highlanders]

Bought locally and is alleged to of been obtained from a Town Hall in the South of Germany
Scarce Hallmarked WW 1 Gordon Highlanders Officers Horse Hair Sporran with Brass Cantle & Leather Purse. The Gordons Regimental Badge mounted on the cantle is hallmarked silver "L" for 1916 with the Assaye marks attributed to Thomas Kerr Ebbut.The moroccan red purse is complete with its original belt loops.To the front right of the sporran is a small period repair which is not visible till the hair is either parted or lifted. Otherwise a fine original example.
